A bit of homework on the company encouraged the single mother of three that she could build a career -and keep a healthy work-life balance.

‘There are so many long-term employees, and that speaks volumes’

For Annette Davis, USA Properties checks many of the important boxes in her professional – and personal – life.

Career development and training opportunities. Great benefits and pay. On-site living. And, most importantly, the ability to spend more time with her family on weekends and providing a better work-life balance.

“I really enjoy being part of the USA family,” says Davis, Assistant Community Manager for Vintage at Snowberry, an affordable senior apartment community in Riverside.

Davis had extensive experience in property management – all in market-rate apartment communities, including for some of the best-known multifamily management companies – when a USA Properties employee told her about an opportunity.

Davis did her homework on USA Properties and applied for an open position in 2013. Soon, she was at Vintage Grove in La Verne before transferring to apartment communities in Murrieta and more recently in Lake Elsinore.

“I’m trying to move my way up through USA, I don’t want to stay idle,” says Davis, who was attracted to the company for the great pay and weekends off, but also the hands-on lesson with affordable apartment communities and the tax credit program that requires a lot more paperwork. “I have a very good grasp on my job. I take great pride in my work.”

‘They’re like a second family’

Developing new skills is critical, but helping residents is also important.

“I love working with people,” says Davis, who once considered pursuing a career in nursing before returning to property management. “I enjoy that connection. I always want people to feel welcome.”

Of course, ask anyone in property management and many benefits come with the occasional challenges.

“Dealing with angry or disgruntled people,” she says. “I always try to diffuse that by taking a soft approach.”

That approach has helped Davis connect and develop close relationships with seniors at Snowberry.

“The people here are amazing,” she says. “The residents appreciate anyone who shows how much they care. They’re like a second family.”

And the career opportunities with USA Properties have helped her first family – two teenage daughters and a son.

“It’s just worked for me and my family, in so many ways,” says Davis, who enjoys the beach, hiking and exploring new places in Southern California. “I always like making new discoveries.”

Like when she learned about USA Properties.

“I can’t say enough good things about USA,” she says. “There are so many long-term employees, and that speaks volumes. It’s a great company to work for.”
